It is a confirmed track off his highly anticipated second studio album 'A Place I Go' due for release on 22 October 2012. The song, described as 'a sad, dark ballad' will be released on 15 October, 2012. James also added that "'Single Tear' is not about a specific person or situation, it's more a bunch of thoughts about how I've felt about myself and my life in the past few years, it's for anyone who ever broke up with someone, lost someone or misses someone".
